Onaona Maly
Cultural and Historical Preservation Manager
Onaona Pomroy Maly (researcher and transcriber) has researched and documented the history of the islands, people, traditions, practices and cultural landscapes of Hawai‘i for over 40 years. She has published more than 350 cultural studies, educational/interpretive and preservation plans, and conducted more than 800 oral history interviews spanning the entire Hawaiian Archipelago. Several major projects, with reports covering over 1,000 pages per study, have been developed as such locations as the Waters of East Maui (2002), Fisheries of the Hawaiian Archipelago (2004), Mauna Kea (2006), Island of Lāna‘i (2011), and the detailed ethnographic-traditional cultural properties study for Phases I – IV of the Honolulu Area Rapid Transit project (2013).
